Emma Honing is a multidisciplinary artist based near the sea in Victoria, BC, located on the unceded lands of the Lekwungen, Songhees, Esquimalt, and WSÁNEĆ peoples. Slug Studios began as a passion project centred on knitting, and over time, evolved into ceramics, a medium that has always held a special place of inspiration and joy.
Slug Studios was born out of a desire to experiment with various forms of expression, beginning with fabric arts and eventually transitioning to clay. Emma's love for ceramics blossomed when she started collecting the work of local artists, which inspired her to explore the material independently. From there, she hasn't looked back and has been practicing her craft since 2023.
Emma's work is deeply inspired by texture, colour, and form. She loves experimenting with creating unique textures on pieces, using bright, bold colours, and pushing the boundaries of shape to create one-of-a-kind designs. Each piece reflects her ongoing exploration of these elements and commitment to bringing a fresh perspective to the ceramic medium.
